The Best Cranberry Relish Ever

Cranberry Apple Relish the Whole Family will Love

I have never been a huge fan of the canned cranberry relish that so many people cherish. That’s ok, though, I am married to a man who loves it, so we always have it on the Thanksgiving table. However, when this recipe entered our family tradition years ago, I was converted. It is so delicious — tart and sweet and spicy. And it isn’t just good with turkey! It’s great over Greek yogurt in the morning. It’s thick enough to spread on bread like jam. It is almost a cranberry chutney, and it’s amazing on a turkey sandwich, too.

This is also a super easy recipe to make. It was one of the first holiday recipes that I made with my son when he was little. And we still make it together!

Hint: make this a day or two before you’ll serve it and just tuck it in the fridge. It will make your house smell heavenly! And it will keep for a week or so — assuming you don’t eat it all first.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped, peeled Granny Smith apple

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup white grape juice

  • 1 tsp ground ginger

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 (12 oz) package fresh cranberries

Instructions

Step 1

Chop the Granny Smith apples into small pieces. There’s no need to peel them.

Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan.

Step 2

Bring everything to a boil.

Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened (15 minutes).

Step 3

Cool. Delicious warm or cold.

Keeps well in the refrigerator for a week, but it will be gone long before that!
